Use digital techniques to create photographs that resemble oil paintings, watercolors, graphic pencil sketches and more. There are a variety of photo editing programs out there, but all the cool kids use Photoshop. In many cases, you can turn your ordinary photo into an art piece simply by loading it into Photoshop and selecting the appropriate filter.

You should try to stay away from an overcast sky when taking pictures. Including too much of a gray sky will make your pictures appear muted and washed-out. Black and white photos can work great for an overcast sky. If the day is not overcast, you can show as much of the sky as you want to, but make sure you are attentive to the lighting.

While the background is important, what the viewer is going to notice first is the foreground of the landscape. Make sure your foreground has a nice appearance and will show depth.

Make sure you pack your photography equipment with care when going on a trip. Take the lenses you anticipate using, and don't forget to bring along additional batteries and cleaning equipment. But don't pack too much here. Only take the equipment that you will need. Anything else runs the risk of getting lost or damaged.

Take notes when taking pictures. When you look back at your pictures, you might have a hard time remembering where you took them. Use a notepad to jot down a few notes about the pictures you take.

Putting your models at ease is important, especially if they are unfamiliar with you. You may unknowingly intimidate your subject, potentially affecting the outcome of your photographs. Be sociable and down-to-earth, start a conversation with them, and politely ask if it's okay for you to photograph them. You need to make your subjects see photography as art as opposed to a violation of their privacy.
