Finding that your computer is running too slow at start - up? Then maybe you should clean-up your startup items, here's how:

Go to start > Run > type ("msconfig") Note:Without the quotes

click the start up tab, click the check box's of - only the items you want to start, when you boot your computer, then click ok,then... (click 'ok' to the option of restarting your computer).

I recommend to dissabling things such as instant messager's and media player's as they dont have to be active when you boot your computer.

also while im onto the subject...Heres another tip.

you can also speed up your computer by going to start > all programs > startup. Then deleting the unnecssary shortcut items within that startup folder.

This will work on XP and I would suppose Vista? If you still use 2000 you will have to go to the MS site and download the MS Configure program, though it is worth it. If you still use 98 or ME you'll have to do the startup changes manually. MS Config only works with NT systems.

Another great way to clean up your computer and make it faster is CCleaner. You can download it fromhttp://www.ccleaner.com

I also recommend to go to your start button at the bottom. Go to all programs, and Accessories. Then system tools and click on Disk cleaner. This will compress files, remove trash, remove download files, and more, This creats more space as well and no download required!

Yep..your right William...but the Ccleaner is an excellent program...used it for years now. It's free and a small size on your computer...it also cleans out your registry..but doesn't go deep enough into it to satisfy me. I also use Advanced SystemCare 3 which is made by IObit...another excellent program...full of useful features including startup and a registry cleaner that does much better than ccleaner...I run them both weekly if not more.

I am very happy with the CCCleaner too. But I will look into SystemCare3 as well for further cleanup. Thanks James

Yes both CCleaner and Advanced SystemCare are excellent programmes for helping keep you machine running well. But a word of warning I have recently had to reinstall xp on two pc's for friends of mine who had used these programmes incorrectly and had completely corrupted the registry and other parts of the OS.

I agree with you all. I was just saying may wanna try that too...lol. I have CCleaner my self but with have to Google the Advanced SystemCare as I never have heard of it!!!

Put it in the URL bar and it came right too it. It looks right. the site is http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html. This is what your talking about right?

I'm about to take a look and possibly download it probably since you all recommended it!!!!

Thats it William..

Simon...You can mess up your computer with any of these programs, or similar ones if used incorrectly. Common sense applys here...just pay attention to what yu are doing..and if you aren't sure how to use a certain application, then either consult the help files or leave that part alone. In areas such as registry cleaning both programs have an automatic backup they run before repair is started. Sems too on XP he should have had the auto backup for XP running...then he could have just gone back to a previous point in the program and been fine.

I always use the backup feature with these kinds of programs. Especially when I touch anything in the registry.

Always takes more time the first time you use it. Especially if you've had your PC for a long time. Files accumulate. Even when you delete some, piece are left behind.

Yeah, but my computer is new, I actually got it the day before christmas because my other ones screen went black and to get it fixed would cost more than a brand new one. I love this computer with Windows 7 on it. Have had no problems with it so fair..."knock on wood".
