Splash Pages ‘How To Guide’

September 15, 2008 – 9:51 pm

We have just added a feature to the promo tools page called: “Splash Pages”. A Splash page is a page that makes people excited about the site before they get to the homepage. This can be used for example on Solo mailings or Ezines or Traffic Exchanges. It is designed to be short and to the point, linking to the site in a new window, so if people are surfing a traffic exchange and it catches their eye, they don’t need to stop surfing to see it in more detail and join. They simply click “Click here to open in a new window” makes sense right? :)

Below is a quick video showing how to use the feature:

Text Instructions:

1) Replace in the url the ‘Traffic+Program+Name’ with the name of the program you are advertising on. If you are using Traffic Swarm, you would put Traffic+Swram. The + is important as it acts as a space in the text. If you were using ViralUrl, you would not need a + as it is just one word.

2) Replace ‘Your+Name’ with your name. Mine would be: Colin+Klinkert

3) Copy your url and start promoting it in the program you choose.

4) Repeat these simple steps for each site you want to use your Splash page on

What Do You Think… How can we improve it?

Clear enough to understand guys? Still getting used to making videos that people can hear and see… Very Challenging indeed :P

  2. Thomas Says:

Greetings Colin, Thomas here, thanks for the invite, the splash pages info , pretty cool. Your doing some great work for us out there! Keep it up buddy.

  3. Brandon Says:

I think the splash page idea is great for traffic exchanges and similar tools. The one thing I noticed though is that near the top of the splash page it reads “I bet you know what is a social networking site”. When I read that it sounded a little awkward, and I thought something like “I bet you know what a social networking site is” would sound a little better. Aside from that, the splash site looks great and your videos are very helpful.

  4. Colin Klinkert Says:

    Thanks Thomas :)

Brandon, you are absolutely right mate, very weak sentence! I have now fixed it up… good spot!

  5. Jesse Logan Says:

It doesn’t get any easier than that. Now if I could only figure out where to start. There are so many resources available here I might have to quit my other affiliate programs until I master this one. I hope it’s worth it in the end.

  6. Crystal Says:

Great instructions, I’m excited to put it to use!

  7. Colin Klinkert Says:

Hi Jesse, Glad its understandable. Best place to start will be telling your contacts, maybe using the address importer and emailing your list (If you have one).

Are you having success with your other affiliate programs? One of the reasons for ViralNetworks is to work together, and also to get advise from other members. We will have a nice member forum at launch.

  8. John K. Taylor Says:

    Hello all at ViralNetworks,
As I am very new to the internet and network marketing,I do not have a website yet nor do I have a list of contacts I can send this offer to. I have sent some individual emails to some people I think may be interested in this offer, but I have not got the hundreds/thousands of names that other people seem to have. I am just in the proccess of building a list. Can you,if posssible suggest some places that I may be able to place free ads,and promote your excellent splash pages.
Now I have joined ViralNetworks I am going to do everything in my powers to make it a success for me.

    Good Luck and Best Wishes
    For the BIG LAUNCH
    John K.Taylor

  9. Walt Webb Says:

Hi Colin, thanks for the brief explanation on splash pages. I also use Viral URL but have been having trouble getting into it. The links are not being recognized on my computer for some reason and when I do a google search and the site comes up up the link will not direct me to the site, have you changed anything on the site?
    Walter

  10. Louise Says:

Look forward to the Forum, Colin. I have to say this site is great and referring it is a piece of cake so far. Excellent job on the splash page, just what we needed.

  11. Colin Klinkert Says:

    Hi Walt,

If you can open up a helpdesk ticket for Viralurl in http://www.reply2frank.com/ I think I know what is not working for you, if you just copy and paste your post there we can respond, thanks.

  12. Norm Heseltine Says:

I also look forward to the forum, keep up the great work!

I am fairly new to the net and its opportunities, but I do have opportunities for those looking for business ideas.

  13. Rhys Davies Says:

Great feature, this is going to be something I promote to all my networks, what a great site, and its so easy to get members. I joined at 7:30am on the 15th and already not even 24 hours in I have over 100 referrals. great site guys, i’m just setting up the sites you recomend to promote with.

    To our success

    Rhys

  14. Paul e Watts Says:

What a great, refreshing new website and concept!

Liking the squeeze page and the way it features the traffic-exchange/List-Builder at the top.

I’ve been incorporating this idea myself for many months prior to joining Viral Networks for my eelott.com business and it definitely increases list subscriptions and therefore sign-ups.

I recently tweaked mine so that it featured in a solid red box with white type making it more prominent and subscriptions have shot up by 20%! Surfers are fickle and if they see the connection they’re more likely to click through or at least bookmark the page.

Colin: Would this be something you might consider (Solid red box at top)?

Other than that:- Let’s all work to make this thing fly! Effort = Success! Promote Promote Promote!

  15. Colin Klinkert Says:

Hi Paul, thanks for the suggestion. As soon as we find some time we will be adding other options in, yes.

  16. Colin Klinkert Says:

BTW – Paul if you want to send me your splash page i can change it to fit ViralNetworks and enable it, you can get me on the helpdesk: http://www.reply2colin.com/

  17. Glen Persson Says:

    Holy Smoke a roonies!

I just watched that vid…man you sure outdid anything i have seen so far.

    Great job Colin!

Gonna use it in all five of my sites!

  18. Glen Persson Says:

I forgot a quick question, is it ok to do a source code search and place a copy of the splash page on some of my webpages?

  19. Mr Javo Says:

Nice feature, you have many resources to promote this service, good job.

  20. Colin Klinkert Says:

Thanks Mr. Javo, wonderful to see you here mate! :)

  21. Colin Klinkert Says:

Hi Glen, of course go for your life mate!

In fact if you want to make a really cool one to share with the VN userbase, you can send it to me as an attachment on my helpdesk: http://www.reply2colin.com/ and I will get it setup to be copy and paste style like this one :)

  22. adele olson Says:

    adele olson on Sept.16

  23. Colin Klinkert Says:

    Hello Adele,

Welcome to the site. I am not 100% sure what you mean by show me. Do you mean show you a social network and how it works in terms of features?

We are still in prelaunch but leading up to 1st launch I will be releasing videos on this blog showing the site and how different parts work

  24. Janet Legere Says:

    Wow Colin,

This just keeps getting better and better, thanks so much for these great splash pages and simple directions to personalize.

    Keep it up!

    Janet Legere

  25. Alexei Zoubov Says:

    Thanks!

Am I missing something? It says “pages”, but I see only one.It looks that it is not possible to use this splash page in a rotator, right?

  26. Colin Klinkert Says:

    Hi Alexei,

We will be adding more in the near future. You should be able to use it in a link rotator

  27. Glen Persson Says:

Re: Possible to use it in a rotator.

The best way to market any ref url is with a credits link like viralurl.com, …now I a haven’t tested it but because of the + and = in the link it may not work and conflict.

However I do know this, you can purchase a domain name at godaddy for instance, and depending on the size of the name you pick and the popularity of the letters you use, the price should be around $12-13 a year.

And the other thing I can tell you is this, the splash page link DOES work in the url forwarder!

I know…I bought a domain with Cira registration (Canada) and forwarded it to my splash page.

Now after you have done that, just enter that new forwarded domain into the rotator.

Be careful as some rotator outfits won’t let you use forwarded urls because they know you can change it at any time to something bad.

The best thing is a traffic exchange (text ads)that has a free rotator service…put what you want in because they aren’t accountable for your own personal uses.

Make sure you also go with a fairly large hosting company with a known record of fast servers and almost zero downtimes.

The reason being is when your new domain is in the rotator…you don’t want any page lag at all.

No one will even know it is a forwarded domain.

    Cheers :)

PS! For goodness sakes…NEVER use a url short service?? It’s soooo cheesy :)

  28. Glen Persson Says:

oops. silly me, I said I bought it with Cira, What I should have said was I had to register it with Cira too.

I bought the domain at godaddy…sorry folks.

    I look like a spammer. :(

    Don’t boot me Colin…I just started :) :) :)

  29. Marius Wlassak Says:

Are the Splash Page template URL already implemented in the Promotional section so that we can start modelling?

    Thanks in advance
    Marius

  30. Colin Klinkert Says:

LOL Glen ;) Ok, final warning…

Marius, not 100% sure what you mean, but if you mean does it have your link built in already then yes.

If you want to make your own template you can use the ‘view source’ option until we come up with something better.

  31. Tremayne Robinson Says:

Thanks for the splash pages! Just need to PROMOTE _ PROMOTE _ PROMOTE Now! Soon to make a lot of money with this. Especially in conjunction with my primary business at the moment. ViralNetwork WILL BE an Internet Marketer’s Playground and I’m glad to be a part of it in the beginning. Thanks Guys

  32. Ken Wolff Says:

    Thanks Colin!

I am just getting started here and very pleased with the results already. I have just scratched the surface here in taking advantage of the promotion tools. I will be personalizing the splash page soon. :-) . Ken Wolff

  33. Iago Says:

    Colin.

Just reviewing the comments here, you are certainly a busy guy. Responding to so many comments, suggestions and requests outside of whatever else you are doing both online and off, I imagine you don’t have a lot of time for a leisurely lunch while sipping a bit of chilled chablis. Bummer, that, yeah?

I have been working all through the night and morning to get back into watching “How To Manage Yourself And Your Time (And How To Dramatically Increase Your Personal Productivity)” by Eban Pagan, which attention towards was disrupted by a sudden urge to peruse the comments on that webpage, in between swooping down occasionally to dip back into the 300-odd pages of the “12 Month Marketing Blueprint” by Rich Schefren, add some finetuning to a new Google-hosted website I am building to promo Fundraiser 1.0, read over the beginning essays in a new NLP membership I have just joined, write to some Wowzza buddies, feed the cat, respond to my spouse with earnest sincerity regarding her comments about the action happening on HBO Asia while she watches “The Untouchables” for the first time (“Hey, they killed him! That’s not fair!!” “No, honey, it’s not fair, is it?”), catch up on smirkingchimp.com and bartcop.com . . . such is the life of the Intrepid Netrepreneur.

Anyway, this is good stuff that you have pulled together here. And I see at the same time as all this new busyness you are engaging yourself in, that you have done quite well in the contest you are ineligible to compete in since it’s your own contest. If I wasn’t so busy myself working my way through this plethora of Firefox tabs open in various Firefox browser windows in order to get back to finish watching and taking notes on time management from Eban’s succinct video, I would be jumping right into the contest fray and do my best to drive you down in the contest success list. Ha ha.

But, despite all of the above, I would also like to extend a heartfelt thanx for providing what could very well turn into an excellent listbuilder for yours truly.

So. Thank you very, very, very, very much with powdered sugar and wildflower honey and strawberries and raspberries and blueberries on top and all that. Now, go take a break and have some well-earned dessert.

    Yours in good faith,
Iago de Otto (not his real name)

    chaoschasm.ws

P.S. I see by my computer timepiece that it is just past noon now, so I guess I can take a break too and go get some lunch. I think a bowl of wonton soup is in order from the Shanghai noodle shop around the corner and down the alleyway. Yummie.

  34. Colin Klinkert Says:

Lago de Otto, if not your real name is a good choice of pen name, very catchy :) You also have a wonderful writing style lago and I agree with all that you said above.

It can be information overload and there are lots of things that can take up time that don’t bring in money. I guess in online business the 90/10 rule also applies, 90% of our actions bring in 10% of the moola, and of course the other way round too!

Welcome and I look forward to seeing you adding your experiences to ViralNetworks and hope that while our site will take time, that you see it in the same light as Eban’s course and so forth, an education with the added benefit of enhancing your reputation too.

  35. Rob Says:

    Colin,

Did you or anyone else notice that the splash page link now goes to the login page first?

Only when I login, does the splash page come up. That doesn’t seem to be of much use when I am promoting the splash page to people who have never signed up yet!

And why would I want to see my splash page as the first thing when I log in anyway? What happened? Was this just another(!) flash-in-the-pan site that someone forgot to monitor and update/fix? (Face it – five days of posts after the video was posted and now no posts for a month and a half!)

  36. Colin Klinkert Says:

    Hi rob,

Thanks for the heads up, its now fixed. Also no flash in the pan, just been getting ready. Look for an update tomorrow :)

  37. Mary Says:

    Gad Man,
How have you pulled this together?
I’m done in reading these posts!
    Great ideas you have.
I see from Twitter, you are in Sth France???
    I thot you were a British/South African/Dutch?? Aussie!
Regardless, of your heritage, your voice is perfect for speaking on the video tutorials.
Thanks again for the simplicity of your explantions
    Mary

  38. Colin Klinkert Says:

    Mary,
I consider myself Aussie, but yes, been around a few places. Wonderful to have some great Aussies as part of the site, great to have you with us! :)
